The Reubin McNeill Teacher of the Year Awards

Each year, the Apex Chamber of Commerce presents the prestigious Reubin McNeill Golden Apple Awards to the Teachers of the Year from our local schools. We created this award to recognize the impact teachers have on the vitality of our community. Reubin McNeill, or Mr. Mac as he was affectionately called, was a teacher, coach, and assistant principal at Apex Middle School, and was due to become the principal at the Lufkin Road Ninth Grade Center before his death in 1998. McNeill was a hard worker not only in his school but also in the elementary schools where he was a mentor for kids at risk. He wanted teachers to feel appreciated and know their worth by their peers, students, and the business community.
